Students Receive Ford Focus RS to Race in 24
Hours of Nurburgring:
University team will prepare the factory-issue Focus RS for the
endurance race.
A team of students have received a complimentary Focus RS from Ford in
order to race it in the upcoming 24-hr race at Nurburgring.

The FH Köln Motorsport team is a group of 20 students all from the
Fachhochschule (university of applied sciences) in Cologne. The
engineering students will race the car with the support of several
sponsors inlcuding automotive supplier TRW Automotive, tire-maker Dunlop
and engine oil company Castrol.

The Focus RS provided to the students by Ford is a standard,
factory-issue RS model, with a 2.5 liter, turbocharged 5-cylinder engine
with 305 PS (224 kW). The team, led by Dr.-Ing. Frank Hermann, is now at
work preparing the car for the endurance race.

That includes providing all the fittings required and re-engineering the
car for the massive stresses it will endure in the 24-hr run. For the
interior, the team will be adding a roll cage, Recaro bucket seats, a
6-point harness and fire extinguisher. The car will also get a new
racing suspension, safety fuel tank, a race-ready brake system from TRW,
sport exhaust system from Bastuck and a hydraulic system for quick
pit-stops.
The 24-hr race on the Nordschleife (north loop) track, referred to as
the Green Hell, at the Nurburgring racing circuit takes place May 13 to
May 16
