Het duurde even voor we de naam in al zijn glorie waren vergeten, door de komst van zijn opvolger de inmiddels nog meer geliefde de Ford Focus. Nu haalt Ford de naam toch weer te voorschijn, al hebben we geen idee wat de gedachten hierachter is. Zeker als je leest dat het model waarschijnlijk ook onze kant opkomt.

Of er in ons land markt voor is, zal moeten blijken, want wat is er mis met de Focus Sedan. Deze heeft door de facelifts (2010 & 2014) een mooi strak uiterlijk gekregen, die ook de wat oudere mensen wellicht wat meer aanspreekt, maar eigenlijk blijkt niet leeftijdsgebonden te zijn. Een sportieve en toch degelijk uiterlijk van 0 tot 90 jaar, zoals dit populair wordt omschreven.

Ford Escort production model confirmed for Beijing Motor Show To be virtually identical as the concept.

Ford has announced plans to introduce a production version of the Escort at this month's Beijing Motor Show in China.

The vehicle was previewed last year at Auto Shanghai by a near-production concept and now is about ready to show its commercial face. It will have just about the same size as the Focus sedan but with a roomier cabin and lots of tech goodies. Ford estimates the regular Escort buyer will be wealthier and older compared to an average Focus client.

Last October we saw several patent design sketches indicating the model will change very little from concept to production. Engine lineup, gearbox choices and front- wheel drive layout will be carried over from the Focus.

Although Ford UK chairman Mark Ovenden said "it's a car initially for China", he also acknowledged "it could work in other places." Production will take place in China and there are some chances of seeing the car in Russia as well as several countries from Latin America, while Europe and North America availability isn't considered.

The Ford Focus Escort production version will be unveiled on April 20 during the press day of Beijing Motor Show.
